A Story of Bipolar Disorder, Faith, and Finding Hope Again

In this memoir, pastor and author Tim Reside shares his deeply personal journey through the confusion, pain, and isolation of bipolar disorder—and the grace that carried him through it. Through honest storytelling, biblical insight, and practical encouragement, this powerful memoir reminds readers that mental illness does not have the final word.

For anyone struggling with mental illness—or walking beside someone who is.

The Journey Began With a Voice
He Believed
Was From God

Tim Reside spent most of his life serving in ministry, helping others navigate faith and hardship. But when he became convinced God was calling him to Washington, D.C. to speak to the president, he discovered the voice leading him there was something else entirely:

Bipolar disorder.

What followed was a painful journey through confusion, fear, grief, and suffering—but also one marked by unexpected hope, healing, and grace. Insanity to Serenity is Tim’s honest story of moving from crisis and isolation to balance, peace, and renewed faith.

There Is Hope in the Middle of the Struggle

The confusion. The emotional highs and lows. The fear. The shame. The questions no one else seemed to understand.

But through the journey, he began to realize something powerful: millions of individuals and families quietly walk through the challenges of bipolar disorder every single day.

Insanity to Serenity was written to bring hope to those navigating mental illness and encouragement to the people who love them. Through honest storytelling, spiritual reflection, and practical insight, Tim offers a reminder that even in the darkest moments, healing, support, and peace are still possible.

Praise for Insanity to Serenity

  • As a physician, I have learned that the most dangerous illnesses are often the ones people feel compelled to hide. Insanity to Serenity confronts that silence with unusual honesty, clinical clarity, and spiritual maturity. Tim Reside does not romanticize bipolar disorder, psychosis, depression, or chronic pain. He names them accurately, shows their real-world consequences, and—most importantly—shows what it looks like to keep living with dignity when a cure is not guaranteed. … Insanity to Serenity is not merely a memoir; it is a story of resilience, rooted in reality, informed by hard-won wisdom, and written with the kind of integrity that helps people feel less abandoned and alone.
